I quit social media for 2 months….

Also, here's how to fly to Hong Kong for free this year

So last year, I begin feeling a little too overwhelmed with social media, so I decided to go cold turkey and embark on an indefinite social media break. I lasted about 2 months and eventually caved, but hey, at least I tried!

As if it dealing with nearly 4 different social media platforms wasn’t bad enough, they’ve now thrown a new shiny-ass wrench in the works.

Last week, Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger (for the curious, they’re the dudes who created Instagram) launched Artefact - a new….say it with me….

SOCIAL MEDIA APP. 🙄

bruh…

batman facepalming

I mean Elon does seem to need some competition, so I….guess….. there’s a silver lining to this? 🤷

But yeah, Artefact is “A personalized news feed driven by artificial intelligence“. It works kinda like a ‘TikTok‘ for articles. They create a news feed tailored to your interests. They achieve this using machine learning so it gets better over time and serves you more relevant articles. You can then discuss these articles with your friends, followers or whatever they decide to call your digital disciples.

When you open up the app, you’re greeted with a feed of popular articles from pre-curated publishers ranging from your favourite niche blogs to news networks.

They say they came up with the name “Artefact“ by merging the words ‘article and ‘fact‘ - that’s a fun fact 🥁

It’s still in private beta so if you like to give it a go, click here to sign up for the waitlist.

Fancy a free flight to Hong Kong?

No, I’m actually being serious - the Hong Kong government (not me) is covering flight tickets for 500,000 to visit the country.

You…really thought…I….wou…LMAO

The government launched the “Hello Hong Kong“ campaign in collaboration with Cathay Pacific, HK Express and Hong Kong Airlines.

Singapore is doing this in a bid to help revive its economy; particularly the tourism sector which took a hit from its nearly 3-year COVID isolation.

If you’d like to snag a ticket for yourself, make sure to visit the official World of Winners page from the March 1st to sign up to be entered into the lottery

The tickets will be allocated in 3 phases:

  • March 1 Southeast Asia,

  • April 1 Mainland China

  • May 1 Northeast Asia & Rest of the World

in other news…

Microsoft Teams now has a premium tier with ChatGPT built-in!

I’m actually pretty excited about this one because it can do a couple of pretty cool things:

It can automatically prepare meeting minutes for you and can cross reference them to individual speakers. So for example post meeting, you could ask it something like “What did Laura say about the deadline for XYZ account?” and it would answer based on what Laura actually said! It can even split those notes into chapters so you don’t have to read through the whole thing and just skip to the parts of the minutes that are actually relevant to you!

It’s out now and you can try it out here.

That’s it for today. If you’ve enjoyed this read, do consider sharing my newsletter with your friends!
